Troop 54 Wins First Place at 2024 Klondike Derby

Scouts BSA Troop 54 attended the Scatacook Klondike Derby from January 26 – 28 at the Hoyt Scout Reservation in Redding, CT. Over 150 Scouts attended this event from the towns of Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Meriden, New Fairfield, Newtown/Sandy Hook, Redding, and Ridgefield.

The Scouts used their knowledge of Scout skills while participating in outdoor activities to compete for the grand prize. Activities included animal and plant identification, ax throwing, knot tying, fire starting, orienteering, search and rescue, outdoor cooking, and a sled race.

Troop 54 from Bethel was awarded first place in the competition. Second place went to Troop 370 from Sandy Hook, and Troop 870 from Newtown earned third place.

Scouts BSA provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people to be prepared for life.
