What to read, What to read

Like many readers my age, I've outgrown the cheesy writing of the young adult section; while I still enjoy the content, the writing does not suit my reading level. Therefore, to help those that share in my dilemma and reading taste, I have started this blog as a guide to choosing the right book. I will be reviewing novels I like and dislike, as well as, writing the occasional review for movies I've seen that peaked my interest.

To start I suppose it would benefit those of you reading this blog to know what type of novels I enjoy reading. I love fiction; fantasy, adventure and yes romance does appeal to me. However, I also love science fiction, poetry, non-fiction; honestly I'll read any genre if it can keep me interested. Harry Potter holds a special place in my heart, but I also loved The Odyssey and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Now that I've shared my taste, I'll dive right in to my first choice for summer reading. Jenny Han's To All the Boys I've Loved Before is an light, entertaining summer read. The plot is easy to follow, humorous and up-beat. Although the novel comes off cliche and romantic, Han succeeds in returning her readers to high school through the protagonist Lara Jean. Lara Jean learns about love, friendship, growing up and the bond shared between sisters. One critique I do have, though it's more of a personal preference, is the use of referring to the father as 'daddy.' I had a hard time believing a seventeen year old would still refer to her father as daddy, especially around her friends. However, aside from this choice in vocabulary, Han's novel To All the Boys I've Loved Before is a light, enjoyable summer read. I'd suggest it to friends, people looking for a funny read, and anyone reminiscing about high school and adolescence.
