Whiz Kid: Zack Prout

Zack Prout  is a Bethel High senior and currently on the varsity lacrosse team. Prout plans on attending Hofstra University to study economics. He has been active in DECA and achieved top International rankings after along and diligent testing process.

According to advisor Karen Fildes,The DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) is the culminating event for DECA chapters around the world. This year it was held in Orlando, FL, and more than 16,000 students, advisers and business partners attended. The event itself is composed of 40 competitive events (which students must qualify for to participate at their state level), a Leadership Academy, Career Fair, Adviser Academy and various additional events.

One such "optional" event was the DECA Dash with the Diamonds 5K Run to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This was Bethel High School's second year competing at the state level and the first time the team qualified for the ICDC. This makes Prout an International Finalist a serious achievement. It took four rounds of role play plus a written test for him to achieve that. 

Fildes said Prout is a great student and a nice young man.

"I was truly proud to be his adviser at this event because you can not find any more polite, well behaved and professional young men," Fildes said. "Zack is very well rounded loves LAX and is looking forward to attending college this fall."

Prout said besides sports and DECA, he enjoys working on his car, exploring different genres in music and spending time with friends and family. He likes being hands-on and problem solving, and he feels that he owes many thanks to his parents and teachers along the way who encouraged him. A firm believer in making life what you want it to be, Prout said he tries hard to be open minded to take in the world around him.
