Wondering About All The Sirens? Bethel Firefighters Had Busy Afternoon

BETHEL, CT — Residents who heard frequent sirens across Bethel on Tuesday afternoon weren't imagining things.

In a social media post, the Bethel Fire Department said firefighters, police officers and EMTs responded to a string of emergencies across town over a roughly two-hour period.

According to the department, the incidents included two motor vehicle crashes, a structure fire downtown, multiple fire alarm activations in Clarke Park, a brush fire in Stony Hill, another outside fire downtown and an additional fire alarm activation in Stony Hill.

"Help was needed across town and a lot of firefighters, police officers, and EMTs were working hard to deliver that aid where needed," the department wrote.

Mutual aid agencies that assisted included Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company, Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company, Redding Fire & EMS, Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company, Bethel police and emergency management officials.

As of the department's post Tuesday, officials said emergency responders had handled 17 calls for service across town since midnight.
