SEYMOUR, CT — A “severely emaciated” dog was found wandering on Saturday night, and an animal advocacy group is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.

The male dog, which was dragging a black leash, was discovered in the area of Clinton and Rimmon roads around 8:30 p.m., according to Woodbridge Regional Animal Control, which handles animal-related cases in Woodbridge, Bethany and Seymour.

The dog is now in animal control’s custody, and officials are seeking the public’s help to identify the owner. The animal is described as a tan pitbull.

“This dog is in extremely poor condition and is severely emaciated,” Woodbridge Regional Animal Control said, in a Facebook post. “We are asking anyone with information about who may be responsible for him to please come forward.”

Desmond's Army Animal Law Advocates, an animal advocacy group based in Winsted, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of whoever is responsible for the dog’s condition and abandonment.

According to Desmond’s Army, the dog has suffered “severe neglect.”

“The dog was discovered in extremely poor condition — severely emaciated and clearly abandoned,” the organization wrote, in a Facebook post announcing the reward. “This is a heartbreaking case of animal cruelty. Help us bring justice for this innocent dog.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Woodbridge Regional Animal Control at 203-389-5991.
