Woodbridge Firefighter Named 2026 Firefighter Of The Year

WOODBRIDGE, CT — Woodbridge Firefighter Paul Konwerski has been named Woodbridge's 2026 Firefighter of the Year and will be honored at the Amity Chamber of Commerce Community Awards and Annual Meeting.

Konwerski was chosen by the leadership of the Woodbridge Fire Department, according to the chamber. He will be recognized Sept. 17 at the Courtyard by Marriott, 136 Marsh Hill Road, in Orange.

Konwerski joined the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department in June 2009. He was certified as a Firefighter I and Firefighter II in 2010 and also earned rescue and heavy rescue certifications that year.

Konwerski later earned certifications as a fire instructor and emergency medical technician. He became a lieutenant in 2013 and a captain in 2015, according to the release.

"Firefighter Paul Konwerski has been a dedicated member of the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department since 2009," Woodbridge Fire Chief Sean Rowland said. "His dedication is not only to the Fire Department, but he also donates his time and service supporting community events throughout the year to the Town of Woodbridge."

The Amity Chamber Community Awards and Annual Meeting will include a hot buffet breakfast and networking with officials, business leaders and community leaders from the region, according to the release. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the program begins at 9 a.m.
