4 Deer Rescued by Branford Firefighters

Firefighters responded by boat to help rescue the deer.

BRANFORD, CT – Four deer who had fallen through ice on Lake Saltonstall on Sunday morning where rescued, safely, by the Branford Fire Department.

According to reports on the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter website, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Branford Animal Control was dispatched to Lake Saltonstall, after receiving a call about animals being stuck in the ice.

The caller was unsure if the animals were dogs or deer.

After Animal Control arrived, it was determined it was four deer tapped in the icy waters. Animal Control contacted the Branford Fire Department, who quickly responded with a boat.

The boat created a path through the ice so the deer could swim back to shore, safely.

According to the Animal Shelter post on its website: “It was no easy task and took a w hours, but the firefighters keep at it all four deer swam to shore.”
