5 Branford Nail Salons Shut Down, Fined for Pay Violations
The salons resumed operations after complying with the law.
Five Branford nail salons are among 23 that the state shutdown for wage violations.
According to foxct.com, the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Wage and Workplace Standards Division investigated 25 nail salons, issuing stop work orders and shutting down 23 of them.
The violations included workers being paid in cash with no payroll records, wages below the $9.15 per hour minimum wage and lack of overtime payment. Owed wages were recovered and fines were issued.

Oasis Nails, Pretty Nail and Spa, Sera Nail Salon, Town Nails and Simply Nails—all in Branford—were among those shuttered by the state, foxct.com said.
The salons were allowed to resume operations after coming into compliance with state workplace laws.
