7 People Injured in I-95 Accident in Branford

A total of seven vehicles were involved in the accident Monday afternoon.

Branford, CT — Branford and East Haven firefighters responded to a seven-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Interstate 95 Monday afternoon between Exits 54 and 53 on the southbound side, Branford fire officials said.

The accident was reported around 1:20 p.m. As of 4:20 p.m. one lane is open near the accident scene.

A total of seven people were hospitalized, including some who were critically injured, Branford fire officials said.

Branford Deputy Chief Michael Stackpole said, “We had multiple injured parties, some of whom were critically injured, trapped in their vehicles.”

Firefighters from both Branford and East Haven fire departments worked to extricate the patients from their vehicles, while additional patients were treated and transported to area hospitals by ambulances from Branford Fire Department and American Medical Response.

“It took our crews nearly 25 minutes to extricate one of the seriously injured pediatric patients from the vehicle she was riding in,” said Stackpole.

In total seven patients were transported, and four refused medical treatment on the scene, fire officials said.

This accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
