Latest Scams Targeting Branford Residents May Appear Legit; They're Not: Police (patch.com) — Branford police are warning residents about two convincing scams, one involving fake Planning and Zoning invoices requesting wire payments and another using bogus Connecticut District Court traffic violation texts. Officers stress that Planning and Zoning never takes payments this way and that the court messages are fraudulent. Branford residents who have already paid are urged to call the department’s non-emergency line and to spread the word to neighbors.
2. Rotary Club Announces 2026 College Scholarship Opportunities For Branford Students (patch.com) — Branford students graduating this spring have a chance to earn one of three $4,000 Rotary Club scholarships for college this fall, with a focus on academics, community service, and “Service Above Self.” Applicants must be Branford residents, submit transcripts, test scores, recommendations, and an essay, and meet a June 10 deadline. Materials can be filed online or mailed to the Branford Rotary Club Scholarship Committee.
3. Injured dog bites fire captain after 6-vehicle crash on I-95, officials say (ctpost.com) — A serious six-vehicle crash on I-95 south in Branford injured six people, two seriously, and briefly shut all southbound lanes Saturday afternoon between Exits 56 and 55. An injured dog at the scene also bit a Branford fire captain before being taken to Cosgrove Animal Shelter for care, while the captain later went to the hospital for evaluation.
4. CT restaurant closing after 14 years. Customers lament loss of ‘home away from home' (courant.com) — Home Restaurant on Main Street in Branford will close May 31 after 14 years, ending a run as a beloved, celiac-friendly “home away from home” for many shoreline diners. Owner Jared Schulefand cites the aging building and needed upgrades, and invites customers to visit him and familiar staff at several other local eateries.
5. L.A Fitness, J. Crew, Universal Hotel Liquidators: Connecticut's latest business openings, closings (thehour.com) — A longtime Branford favorite, Home restaurant on Main Street will serve its final meals on May 31 after 14 years in business. The owner says he’s shifting his energy and resources to other restaurant projects, marking the end of a familiar downtown gathering spot for many locals.
