Branford Yacht Club Invitational Golf Tournament Raises $17,574 for Camp Rising Sun

BRANFORD, CT — For nearly 25 years, the members of the Branford Yacht Club have supported local charities through their annual golf tournament.

Over the years, their generosity has helped send hundreds of children to Camp Rising Sun, a place where kids with cancer and their siblings can simply have fun, make friends, and enjoy being kids.

This year's Branford Yacht Club Invitational Golf Tournament was held on May 8, at Orange Hills Country Club and was followed by dinner, raffles, a silent auction, and an awards ceremony at the Branford Yacht Club.

Thanks to a full field of 124 golfers and the support of many generous sponsors, the event raised $17,574 for Camp Rising Sun.

"Branford Yacht Club has always been a very philanthropic organization, and they have supported our campers for countless years," said Shaun Heffernan, Executive Director of Camp Rising Sun. "Without their support, we would not be able to impact the lives of children with cancer and their siblings the way we do."

Dave Carlson, chairman of the Branford Yacht Club Invitational Golf Tournament, credited the success of the event to the generosity of club members and local businesses.

"Through the support of our generous club members, local businesses, and individual contributions, it is an honor for us to be able to help such an amazing group of young people who have faced challenges far beyond their years," Carlson said.

Camp Rising Sun provides a free week of summer camp for children ages 5–17 who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as their siblings. Campers enjoy swimming, boating, arts and crafts, sports, campfires, and other traditional camp activities in a medically safe environment staffed by trained volunteers and healthcare professionals.

Camp Rising Sun extends its sincere thanks to the Branford Yacht Club, tournament sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and supporters whose generosity continues to make a difference in the lives of children and families affected by childhood cancer. Their commitment helps ensure that Camp Rising Sun can continue providing unforgettable experiences and lifelong memories to children who need them most.
