Branford Police Clarify Their Role In Locating Missing Girl, 17, After Social Media Confusion, Chatter

Family posted a 'missing teen' on local social media page and used an Amber Alert hashtag, which led to confusion about police involvement.

BRANFORD, CT — At around 12:30 a.m. Friday, a missing person post with a "missing teen" poster image appeared on the Branford Point Facebook page.

"URGENT – MISSING TEEN Please help us locate Angelica Pagan Amon, 17 years old, who was last seen on July 9, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m. near Sky Diner Restaurant & Pizza in Branford, CT. If you have seen her or have any information, please contact the Branford Police Department at (203) 481-4241, call 911, or contact her family at (914) 208-4163.

At around 8:30 a.m., an update on the original missing person family post: "THANK YOU, EVERYONE! Angélica has been found and is safe. We are deeply grateful to everyone who shared the post, prayed for her, and offered their support."

Shortly after, the Branford Police Department posted to Facebook saying the teen had been located by police and clarifying the police department's role.

"Branford Police located 17-year-old Angelica Pagan Amon. She is safe, and the family was notified.

Regarding the social media posts circulating the internet, those were not created by this department. At no point was she entered as an Amber Alert. Communication was constant with the family to ensure she was located and safe.
