Two 14-Year-Old's Arrested, Charged In Motor Vehicle Theft Investigation: Branford Police

BRANFORD, CT—A stolen car investigation leads to the arrest of two 14-year-olds, police said.

According to Branford police, late Wednesday morning officers responded to a report of a suspicious motor vehicle that had been left in the parking lot of All Pets Club, 479 East Main St.

Police said that the "reporting witness" saw two get out of the vehicle and flee from the area in separate directions.

Officers determined the vehicle had been stolen and had sustained damage to the rear window and ignition, police said in a news release.

A follow-up investigation led police to a nearby motel, where two 14-year-olds matching the descriptions provided by the witness were located and detained.

During the investigation, probable cause to arrest both teens was developed as they were connected to the stolen vehicle, police said. Officers also located a second stolen motor vehicle in the area that had sustained similar ignition damage, officials said.

"Further investigation determined that one teen was also involved in the theft of the second vehicle; they were arrested and charged with two counts of larceny of a motor vehicle and two counts of criminal trover. The other teen was arrested and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and moving violations.

Both juveniles were transported to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center.

Both were scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven Thursday.

"The Branford Police Department would like to thank the alert witness who promptly reported the suspicious activity and provided officers with information that was instrumental in locating the juveniles and furthering the investigation," police noted.
