From Branford Arts & Culture Alliance:
BRANFORD, CT — Art lovers and community members are invited to an afternoon celebrating the life and work of renowned Austrian artist Gustav Klimt on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Branford Arts & Culture Alliance.
The afternoon will begin with a Klimt film screening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the James Blackstone Memorial Library, 758 Main St.
Gustav Klimt painted the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, known as the Woman in Gold, between 1903 and 1907.
The 2015 movie Woman in Gold, starring Helen Mirren, tells the story of a woman's legal battle to reclaim Klimt's iconic painting from the Austrian government.
Following the screening, guests are invited to continue the celebration at a reception at the BACA Gallery from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The reception will feature a diverse group of local artists, including painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, and textile artists. We are also excited to have students and seniors participating, making this a wonderful intergenerational community arts event.
It will be a great opportunity to bring together local artists, the library, students, seniors, and the community to celebrate Klimt and explore how his influence continues to inspire artists working in many different mediums today. The event is free, but registration is required at branfordarts.org.
The event is part of a two-part celebration of Klimt presented by the BACA. The series began Saturday with a Klimt-
inspired art workshop led by artist Edith Reynolds at 1004 Main Street.
