BRANFORD, CT — An 82-year-old woman is accused of driving while under the influence at the time of a crash involving a juvenile riding on an e-scooter, police said.
On Wednesday, Branford police and fire personnel responded to Pine Orchard Road after receiving a report that a motor vehicle had struck a juvenile riding an e-scooter and left the scene, police said.
The juvenile was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital's pediatric unit and is listed in stable condition, with injuries reported to be non-life-threatening.
During the investigation, police reviewed surveillance video from a nearby residence, police said.
The video showed a white Subaru SUV stop after the collision and then leave the scene, police said. Debris recovered at the scene, along with witness statements, helped identify the vehicle as a white Subaru Forester, police said.
Investigators later located a vehicle matching that description. After further investigation, the driver was identified and arrested.
Joan Lindell, 82, of Branford, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first-degree risk of injury, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, and evading responsibility.
Lindell is being held on $50,000 bail.
