Annual Jamboree Signals Upcoming Boys' Lacrosse Season
Branford hosted their annual lacrosse jamboree Saturday with teams from Glastonbury, Staples and Trumbull attending.
Branford hosted their annual lacrosse jamboree Saturday at James L. MacVeigh Alumni Complex. Although it was in the low 40's, the cold weather didn’t slow down these spring athletes.
Three schools completed with Branford in the scrimmages: Glastonbury, Staples and Trumbull. Each team played 33-minute games against each other. The jamboree gave the teams a chance to try new techniques and play teams they normally wouldn’t during their season.
Hornets’ head coach Jim May said he used the jamboree as a way to get the sophomores more in the mix and to work on patience and communicating. He was happy with his team’s crease work, their dodges and passes off dodges and how they defended using the two slides that they need.

Both Glastonbury and Trumbull are in their final days of selecting their team. They wanted to see which players were using what they learned in their brief practices in game situations to whittle their team down for the start of the season.
“We look to work on three things when we come down to a jamboree like this, said Glastonbury head coach Mark Landers. "Number one is our work ethic, number two -- we were working on communication and number three composure. You know those are kinda things we’ve been working on in practice, communication being the first and foremost.”

Trumbull’s head coach, Scott Zinser said his team filled the games and will use the footage as a learning tool. He also said the more work his team gets on the field the better his team will get and their goal is to get better every day.
Branford’s season opener is against McMahon High School in Norwalk April 6th at 7:00 p.m.
