Bear Sightings on the Rise in Branford; Trap Set for One 'Problematic Bear': Police

Branford police say bear sightings are becoming an almost daily occurrence.

BEAR SIGHTINGS

We have been experiencing a significant increase in bear sightings in Branford over the past month, to the point it has almost become a daily event. DEEP has installed a trap in the area of Whiting Farms Road because of a problematic bear.

You can help by reporting sightings of bear on the DEEP website. The website also provides information on what to do if you see a bear as well as preventative measures you can take to protect your property.

DEEP does not send conservation officers out unless the bear does something out of the ordinary or egregious. Most times the bear will wonder around, look for food and go back into the woods.
