BRANFORD, CT – So everyone has their own story about a nightmare visit to the doctor’s office or an insurance fight over coverage which inevitably turns into the patient paying more than they were expecting.

Well, I have my share of those stories also – but that’s not what this story is about.

Several weeks ago I had a procedure done at Digestive Disease Associates in Branford (I’ll let you guess the procedure). For the joy of having that procedure, and the fun I had prepping for it the day before, I was told at the doctor’s office my insurance co-pay was $100.

The $100 was four times higher, by my recollection, than the last time I had a similar procedure a few years back. So I reluctantly paid the $100 and got the procedure done.

Fast forward a few weeks later and in the mail arrives a check for $100 to me from the doctor’s office, with a note saying they were mistaken, that my insurance covered the whole procedure and that I shouldn’t have been charged at all.

Just sharing this little story to show that there is, at least for now, one less cynical patient about doctors and their support personnel.
