Benefit Concert in Hamden June 11 to Raise Funds after Earthquake in Ecuador
On Saturday June 11, a Benefit Concert will be held to raise funds for the Ecuadorian Shelter Initiative, which is responding to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Ecuador on April 16, killing 659 people. The concert will begin at 5pm at Whitneyville Cultural Commons, 1253 Whitney Avenue in Hamden and will feature a wide array of musical performers and genres. Luke Rodney, originally from Trinidad, will play calypso-inflected music and Bop Tweed will treat listeners to their jazz/blues originals. Nibunira plays a blend of traditional Ecuadorian folk with shades of contemporary pop. Elegant Primates play pop music that combines ska and Afro-pop along with Brazilian and Latin influences. Finally, Lines West will close out the show with their melodic brand of roots-rock Americana. Before the show, starting at 3:30, there will be an interactive kids' concert on the lawn along with Yoga for Kids, all for just $5 a child. Tickets for the Benefit Concert are $20 per person, with children admitted free. Come enjoy five bands in one venue while helping to rebuild schools and homes for those devastated by the earthquake in Ecuador. For further info, email robulon@yahoo.com.
