'Suspicious' Pressure Cooker At Branford Plaza Draws Bomb Squad

Part of the Branford Plaza shopping center was shut down after a citizen reported a suspicious package to police.

BRANFORD, CT — Police have called an all clear after the New Haven Police Department's bomb squad was called to the Branhaven Plaza Monday morning after a "suspicious package" was found. That package was reported to be a pressure cooker.

Branford police and fire officials told Patch that an area of the plaza had to be shut down.

Early in the investigation, Branford Police Department Capt. David Galdenzi confirmed for Patch that police were "investigating a suspicious package." He initially asked that people avoid the area around the plaza. "We'd like everyone to stay away from the area," he said.

By 12:15, around an hour after an initial report, Galdenzi said, "all clear," as traffic around the plaza was reopened.

Branford Fire Department Chief Thomas Mahoney told Patch that the bomb squad found that it was not an explosive device.
