All in a Week at CELC in Branford
A week in the life at an experiential middle school
A study of poetry and poets, students read from authors, including Alice Walker, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Maya Angelou, Edgar Allan Poe, and more. They create hand-made bound books in which to place their ten favorite poems, an assortment of original response poems, and biographical information about each author studied. Students are intrigued to discover the possibilities within this form of writing.
CELCers enjoy a workshop about amphibians at Meigs Point. Ranger Russ shares a tree frog pal that can "stick" to his shoulder.
The days are cold, the snow and rain continues to be, yet spring is in the air as students start seed pots with broccoli and tomato seeds. Each new pot is marked carefully with a letter indicating the name of the seed type, such as Fiesta Broccoli, or Prudence Purple Tomatoes. Rob always gets many varieties, supporting diversity and sustainability of heirloom plants.
