Captain's Log: Week One - Signs of life

Week one for the organic garden.

After muddily planting on the fifteenth, my little seedlings were treated to almost six straight days of rain with no sun and low temperatures.  To say that I was fretting at the back door and debating buying a pavilion would not be that far off.  However, this Sunday's inspection brought sun back into my thoughts.  Some minor weeding, planting the marigolds and leaving the petals that fell through the bird netting from the neighbor's tree (thought it makes me feel like the garden is messy and needs a light raking), and I could see that the transplants were faring pretty well.  The tomatoes and peppers seem adjusted, and though the tomatillos are not being supported by their traitor stalks, they are sprouting a second set of (hopefully) true leaves.  The onions?  Meh.  We'll see on those.  Meanwhile, the strawberry plants are clearly from another planet and I would not recommend anyone falling asleep near the garden, lest they wake up and are not themselves.
