Google+ Or Is It A Minus?

Have I hit my saturation point for social media? Have you?

A few of my Facebook friends have started using Google+ and I'm not sure I care.  I've had a few passing thoughts of, "Oh, maybe I'm missing out on something cool," but aside from going to the Google+ site and taking their quick tour, I haven't done a thing about it.  One of my friends said he had a few invites to share, but I didn't pursue one. Why?  I think I've hit my saturation point for social media.

I use Facebook regularly to keep in touch with friends who are far away, friends who live close by but have small children, family members near and far, and of course those people you're not quite sure how you know, but it was probably high school.  My husband has taken to messaging me on Facebook from the other side of the couch with links that he thinks I'll find interesting.  I blog about my garden (be sure to click through here if you haven't visited Heather's Garden before) and I use Twitter to keep in touch with the garden blogger community because that's what they use. Yes, I also follow a few celebrities on Twitter, but I am deeply shamed by it.  And I can't forget Skype for video chats with family members...or even work email – often very social, especially during these lazy, dazy summer days.

The primary reason I can't see myself switching over to Google+ is that I dread finding and friending (circling? whatever Google is calling it) all my Facebook friends again.  Do I really need another social media platform when Facebook is working just fine for me?  Probably not, but I'll still sign up for an account just in case everyone else migrates over there like we all did from Myspace.

How about you?  Will you be checking out Google+ once it becomes available to the general public?  Do you think we need another format for social media?
