Branford Board of Ed Names Brian Zaklukiewicz as District's New Athletic Director

BRANFORD, CT — Brian Zaklukiewicz was named Branford schools' new athletic director, the Board of Education announced.
The board noted in a news release that Zaklukiewicz is a "familiar and respected" member of the school community.
Zaklukiewicz served as interim Athletic Director since last spring and, since 2022, has been a "valued" member of the health and physical education department at Branford High School.

Before coming to Branford, Zaklukiewicz served the
Franklin School District as a teacher, Middle School Athletic Director, Dean of Students, and as a coach.
According to the board, Zaklukiewicz is an "active presence in the Branford community as both a resident and former coach."

"He has contributed to student-athletes’ development as a golf, basketball, and baseball coach, and has played an important role in curriculum development within the health and physical education department, consistently fostering collaboration and a team-first mindset," according to the school district.

It's noted that the educator is "committed to building upon the District’s proud traditions while identifying opportunities to strengthen programs, enhance student experiences, and continue elevating standards across all teams."
Zaklukiewicz said he was "honored and grateful" for the opportunity to serve as the next athletic director.
"I look forward to continuing this work alongside our coaches, student-athletes, families, and community," he is quoted as saying. "I believe strongly in developing learners into leaders, and that athletics play a critical role in that process. Everything we do will be centered on putting students first, while improving our programs, enhancing our facilities, growing our community, and fostering a culture of high standards and excellence across the Southern Connecticut Conference and the state of Connecticut."
The district added that his "leadership will focus on creating inclusive, supportive, and high-performing environments where all student-athletes can thrive."
Zaklukiewicz holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of South Florida and a Master of Education in Special Education from Sacred Heart University. He is currently pursuing a Sixth-Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University.
Superintendent Christopher Tranberg said he's the "right leader at the right time for the Branford Public Schools Athletic Department."
"His ability to form positive relationships, listen with empathy, and set high expectations will serve him well in this role," Tranberg said. "Through his time as interim Athletic Director and throughout the selection process, he has demonstrated a commitment to growth, continuous improvement, and excellence. The future is bright for Branford athletics."
Zaklukiewicz said he is "excited for the future and incredibly proud to lead Branford Athletics forward. Go Hornets!"
