Branford Cops Charge Guilford Sex Offender With Violations

Police said John Robert Walsh, 36, failed to register with state police, failed to appear in court and violated his probation.

BRANFORD, CT - Police charged a convicted sex offender from Guilford with failing to register with the state police, among other charges, last Saturday.

Police said John Robert Walsh, 36, of 201 Granite Road, also failed to appear in court and violated the terms of his probation. The failure to register charge is defined as violating the law that requires the "Registration of person who has committed a sexually violent offense." Read the full state law here.

According to the state sex offender registry and online judicial records, Walsh was convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 2005.

Walsh, who goes by the street name "Sleepy," was charged by police last year with two counts of violating a protective order, both felonies. He was also charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct related to incidents in May and June 2019.

He was re-arrested but later released.

Walsh, who records show has more than a dozen tattoos, has a lengthy record of criminal convictions, according to court documents.

He has had addresses in Guilford, Branford, Clinton and other communities, records show.
