Branford Cops Tussle With, Arrest, Charge Hamden Man Who Had 2 Guns On Him During Friday Night Incident: BPD

BRANFORD, CT —Early Friday night, Branford police responded to Branford Public Storage on Summit Place for a report of what was described as an "ongoing domestic disturbance," authorities shared on social media.
When cops got to the scene, they encountered a man "behind the building who actively resisted attempts to detain him," police noted on Facebook.
"During the encounter, the individual struggled with officers and ignored repeated verbal commands to comply," police wrote. "While officers were attempting to gain control of the situation, a firearm fell from the suspect’s person."

Officers immediately secured the weapon as they “continued their efforts to safely detain the individual,” police said.
During the continued struggle, cops found another gun in the man’s waistband. It too was "secured by officers," police said.

"The suspect continued to resist and attempted to move toward the firearms before officers were able to remove him from the area and place him under arrest," Branford police noted.
Dominick Pearson, 35, of Hamden, was taken into custody and charged with two counts of theft of a firearm, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of possession of large-capacity magazines, disorderly conduct, interfering with an officer, and second-degree criminal trespass.
Pearson also had multiple rearrest warrants for failure to appear in court from neighboring towns, and has an active New Haven police warrant for robbery.
He was detained on bond and held in custody pending arraignment on Monday.
No members of the public or officers were injured during the incident, police said.
“The Branford Police Department commends the responding officers for their quick actions in safely securing multiple firearms and resolving a dangerous situation,” police wrote.
