The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
The single most pressing issue for the board of education is change. Covid has highlighted many challenges and weaknesses. I hope to listen and respect and engage with the community. Working with them to overcome those challenges now and in the future.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
I have 4 children in the school system and will be for the entire length of the seat I am running for. Having parents as part of the table with knowledge of each school would be beneficial.
Other issues:
If the Board of Ed as well as superintendent worked together to set clear attainable metrics and goals, parents would be less apprehensive on divisive topics. Knowing where we are going and the steps to getting there would ease the “unknown” factor. Last year we were kept in the dark from a reopening plan till last minute. I want to be ahead of these issues instead of behind. Plans don’t have to be set in stone and can adapt or change but at least there is a clear path and how currently we can get there.
Communication would be another issue. I want to adapt how the board handles emails and questions. There are many meetings and it can be hard for the average parent to navigate which meeting best fits the topic they want to engage on. Creating an agenda with links of topics that are brought to the board on the website in advance would help navigation. For examples fields if there was a monthly list of topics to click on it can bring you to the meeting and time the topic is going to be discussed. This would help parents know what is coming and when.
