Branford Election 2021: Tracy Everson Running For RTM District 5

Patch contacted candidates to answer questions about their campaigns.

Democrat Tracy Everson, 57, is running for Branford RTM Representative, 5th District in Branford.

Experience: Branford Town Representative, 5th District, and Branford RTM

Family in government: no

The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

Economic development is the single most pressing issue facing the town of Branford. There is currently a part-time director. It's not enough. Other neighboring towns and towns of similar size recognize the extraordinary need for a full-time person. This administration does not. We need to grow the tax base with smart growth to ease the burden off of residential taxpayers.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

My democratic running mates in the 5th District and I have been out knocking on doors and reaching voters directly. We are working hard to serve the people we represent.

Accomplishments:

Frustrated by the lack of timely filing of committee meeting minutes, the Minority Leader Tom Brockett and I introduced a rule change that passed. It requires minutes to be publicly available shortly after a committee meeting is held. Informing the public in a timely manner is simply good government.

Other issues:

I'm working in a bi-partisan way to tackle the public safety of the Indian Neck entertainment district. It's time to improve this area of Rt. 146 for residents and visitors alike.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

I'm a member of the Branford RTM Administrative Services Committee, which reviews many town departments' budgets, and the Branford Coastal Vulnerability ad hoc Working Group. We need to prepare the town for rising sea level that will impact our expansive shoreline and our town's infrastructure.
