Branford Family Objects to Plea Agreement in Fatal DUI Crash
The family of a woman killed in a crash said they were not made aware of the agreement.

The family of a Branford woman killed in a car crash objected to the plea agreement entered by the man responsible for the crash, the New Haven Register reports.
Vincent Mauro, 32, crashed his car while driving under the influence. His wife, Megan McAuliffe, 29, died as a result of the crash.
According to the paper, at a hearing on Monday in New Haven Superior Court, McAuliffe’s family members said they were not given an opportunity to voice their opinions and they wanted the plea vacated. Judge Maureen Keegan said there was no way for her to negate the plea.

Court personnel said they had notified the family via a letter and a telephone message about the plea agreement, however the family said they had received no notification, the paper reports. The plea agreement would be for Mauro to get one year in prison following three years probation. Mauro would also have the right to argue for less time in prison at the time of sentencing, according to the agreement.
Mauro’s sentencing has been scheduled for Dec. 9.
