Branford Fire Department Marine Unit Rescued Boaters In LI Sound

The US Coast Guard out of New York City praised Branford fire's Marine 5 unit for rescuing boaters off a vessel in distress Saturday night.

BRANFORD, CT — The U.S. Coast Guard gave a shout-out to the Branford Fire Department Sunday for its help in rescuing boaters from a craft taking on water in the Long Isalnd Sound.

"Last night a boatcrew from U.S. Coast Guard Station New Haven and Marine 5 from Branford Fire Department sprung into action when a 23-foot boat started taking on water in Long Island Sound.

Marine 5 took everyone off the boat and the Station New Haven boatcrew began towing the boat and dewatering it. The boat was safely moored at Branford Point.
