To Appoint Commissioners, Branford Harbor Management Commission Seeks Applicants
Branford RTM established Harbor Management Commission in June 2025 to plan for safe, beneficial use/enjoyment of near-shore LI Sound waters.

BRANFORD, CT — In June 2025, the Branford Representative Town Meeting approved the establishment of a Harbor Management Commission as allowed by state statute.
As noted by the town in a media release, establishment of a Harbor Management Commission will allow the town to "plan for the safe and beneficial use and enjoyment of the Town’s near-shore coastal waters. "
The nine-member commission will include stakeholders of marinas and boatyards, commercial maritime businesspeople and fishermen, coastal environment advocates, recreational boaters, shell
fishermen, island owners, and coastline residents.

"One of the first tasks of this commission will be to prepare a Harbor Management Plan to
determine the most desirable use of the Town’s coastal areas for recreational, commercial, industrial and other purposes, and to assure that the plan provides for the preservation and use of the coastal resources of our harbors in a manner consistent with state statutes," the town noted.
Importantly, the town noted that, "Implementation of a functioning Harbor Management Commission will require support from the community, significant time and expense on the part of the municipality and dedicated personal commitment from appointed volunteer commissioners."
