Branford is Home to One of the Wealthiest Americans says Forbes

Karen Pritzker of Branford was ranked 121 on the Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans with a current net worth of $4.1 billion.

Pritzker, 56, is a member of the Chicago-based Pritzker family. According to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, the family’s fortune began with Abram Nicholas Pritzker, a graduate from the Harvard University School of Law.

Pritzker and his brother Jack Nicholas Pritzker began investing in real estate and small companies in the Chicago area, growing their family business. Pritzker’s sons Robert Alan, Donald Nicholas and Jay Arthur bought the Hyatt House hotel in Los Angeles, expanding the investment into a chain of more than 150 hotels. The Pritzkers also built the industrial conglomerate, Marmon Group.

Karen Pritzker is the daughter of Robert Alan Pritzker.

According to Forbes, she and her husband Michael Vlock have invested in shares of Apple, medical device companies and in a GPS device called “ARCCOS” to name a few of their investments.

The couple has made donations to Yale University, Teach for America and to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
