Branford Man Sentenced to Prison Sues for Negligence

Vincent Mauro pleaded no contest; blames construction companies for involvement in wife's death.

A Branford man, sentenced to prison for causing the death of his wife, is suing a construction company for neglience.

According to foxct.com, Vincent Mauro, along with his wife Megan McAuliffe’s family, is suing Tilcon Inc. and Costello Industries Inc. for wrongful death.

Mauro was sentenced in May to two years in prison, after he pleaded no contest to second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle.

At the time of the crash in August 2013, his blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit.

Foxct.com said the accident was at an intersection in Branford where the two construction companies named in the suit had milled the roadway. The suit alleges they did not use proper signage to indicate raised portions of the roadway.

Mauro claims he lost control of his vehicle because he hit a raised storm drain, which made him go off the road and hit a tree, according to the foxct.com article.
