Branford Man Shot by Police in New Haven: PD

The man allegedly tried to back into police officers, according to police.

NEW HAVEN, CT—State Police and New Haven Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the area of Church Street and Columbus Avenue/Street.
Injuries appear non-life threatening at this time, said Trooper First Class Kelly Grant, State Police spokeswoman.
Guilford Police put out a notice that a Branford man committed a robbery in their town and broadcast a vehicle description, said Officer David Hartman, New Haven Police spokesman.
The man, identified as Kenneth Palmieri, 50,committed a robbery at 55 Church Street around 6 a.m., Hartman said.
He drove away from police and officers called off the pursuit. He was found minutes later in parking garage at the Church Street South housing complex.
"When officers got out of their patrol cars and approached Palmieri, he accelerated at them and crashed into two of the cruisers," Hartman said.
One officer fired at Palmieri and struck him in the arm. He was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital. There were no injuries to officers.
