Branford police say the mother and son suffered serious injuries in the accident.

BRANFORD, CT — A mother pushing her son in a stroller was struck by a motorist in an underpass in Branford, police said.
At 3 p.m. Monday, members of Branford Police and Fire departments responded to a report of a woman and her child being struck by a motor vehicle on East Main Street, at the Interstate 95 underpass between the Exit 55 off ramps, said Police Capt. Geoffrey Morgan.
When officers arrived they located a female, later identified as Rina Corsi, 42, of East Main Street and her 1-year-old son, Jackson Chancio, lying in the roadway, police said.

Witnesses told police that Corsi was pushing her son in a baby stroller, along with another child who was walking, when she pushed the stroller into the travel portion of the roadway to avoid debris, police said.
At that point Rina and Jackson were struck by a vehicle being operated by Lynn Delgiudice, 74, of Church Street, North Branford, who was traveling southbound, police said.

Rina and Jackson were treated at the scene by Branford Fire Department Paramedics and later transported to an area medical facility for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, police said. The second child was uninjured, police said.
The accident remains under investigation and no arrests have been made, Morgan said.
