The commissioners, noting that Halloran will likely be retiring around 2020, voted to ask the Board of Finance to move one-third of the salary of a not-yet funded deputy chief’s position – or $38,400 – from contingency to the police department’s next year budget.
One of the commissioners made the comment that replacing Halloran will not be easy and “we need to stop screwing around and get this (the deputy chief’s position in the budget) done.”
