BRANFORD, CT – Although he hasn’t said anything official about planning to retire, Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran is letting everyone know that they need to be thinking about what comes next.
Halloran, who has been a member of the Branford police department since 1989 and its police chief for the past six years, has been talking with members of the Board of Police Commissioners about crafting a Deputy Police position in the 2017-2018 budget.

That position, Halloran has repeatedly said, is an important one as it could be the person that might be in line to succeed him, when he does decide to step down as the town’s town cop.
The commissioners, at their May meeting, agreed to work with Halloran to draw up a job description and budget plan for the deputy police chief post.

Halloran, way back in February, was talking about the importance of the deputy chief position in this coming year’s budget.
“Getting a deputy chief’s rank will allow us to develop and continue a succession plan for the next leaders of the department,” Halloran said then.
“The nice part is we do know when people will be leaving,” the chief said. “It is imperative that we get that position (deputy police chief) in there."
