Branford Police Lt. Patrick O'Malley Retires After Nearly 27 Years

BRANFORD, CT — Patrick O'Malley was the kind of cop that, his colleagues said, "everyone wanted to work for, be friends with, and have on calls with."
Thursday, after almost 27 years on the job, the Branford Police Department lieutenant retired.
O'Malley, who was sworn in 1995, had what police said in a Facebook post was a "long, celebrated career."

"His greatest legacy at work though is the way he coached every officer under his command. He was one of the best role models for young officers due to his knowledge, compassion and humor," police wrote.
He ended every roll call with, "“Make me proud out there!”

"He always took the time to listen and explain while emphasizing trust and integrity," police said, "All of this usually accompanied by a joke or two."
