Branford Police Say Residents Targeted in Cyber Monday Computer Scams

Police said they've fielded several calls already.

BRANFORD, CT — Since 8 a.m. this morning, police have received a number of calls, primarily from senior citizens, who have become the victims of computer scams on Cyber Monday, police said.

The caller tells the victims that their computer has been compromised and the victims are providing personal information, including bank account information to the caller. Shortly thereafter, the victim’s bank accounts are compromised and funds removed, police said.

Police Chief Kevin Halloran reminds everyone, that personal information including banking information or computer login and passwords, should never be given out over the phone or through their computer emails. “Almost every time it leads to a case of fraud.” the Chief said.
