Branford Police Step Up DUI Enforcement

Last year, during Thanksgiving four drunk drivers were charged in town.

BRANFORD, CT — Branford Police Officers will be out in force this holiday season, patrolling the roadways for intoxicated drivers. The effort in part is due to a Connecticut Department of Transportation grant that the Department has received for a number of years to crackdown on Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Last year officers removed 4 drunk drivers from Branford roadways. Additionally, officers issued 236 citations for moving violations and warned over 184 drivers while stopping a total of 456 motorists during the grant period which covers all of the major holidays.

“This grant allows our department to supplement our overall mission of making our roadways safe during the holidays.” said Chief Kevin Halloran, “Intoxicated drivers pose a substantial risk to other drivers and the public and our aim is to eliminate Driving Under the Influence.”
