Branford Police Step Up Enforcement to Try and Stem Accidents
Police chief says Branford has had some tragic, even fatal accidents, over the recent time period and patrols have been increased.

BRANFORD, CT - The Police Department, armed with a statewide DUI grant, has stepped up traffic enforcement in recent weeks in an effort to make Branford streets safer.
Police Chief Kevin Halloran said the department utilized a $29,000 grant between the Thanksgiving and New Years' holidays to put out 32 traffic enforcement shifts, with 15 officers, covering 453 hours.
Halloran said the officers made 277 stops during that time period, handed out 144 citations and 140 warnings.

"We are focusing on aggressive driving," the police chief said. "Unfortunately we have had some tragic accidents recently, some fatal accidents."
Halloran said there were few DUI arrests during the recent enforcement period. He said, "That's a good thing - people are aware we are out there."
