Branford Police: Teen, 18, Charged After Threatening Branford High School Student

Police say at no time was the suspect at Branford High School and the incident had no impact on the school day.

Branford police say they charged an 18-year-old teen after he allegedly threatened to harm his girlfriend, who is a Branford High School student.

Police Chief Kevin Halloran and Superintendent of Schools Hamlet Hernandez said police and school officials worked closely together to ensure the case was quickly resolved and to ensure the safety of all students.

Police arrested David Maher at his home at 39 Rogers Street, Branford at about 1:50 p.m., shortly after Maher allegedly made a threat against his girlfriend, a Branford High School student, police said.

The school administration immediately notified the Police Department after learning of the threat.

At no time was Maher in the Branford High School during or after the threat was made, police officials stressed.

“The incident had no impact on the student’s academic day.” said Hernandez.

Police learned during the investigation that there was a protective order in effect, mandating Maher have “No Contact” with the victim, police said.

Maher was transported to the Branford Police Department where he was charged with first-degree threatening, and violation of a protective order. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
