Branford Receives State Grant for Construction of Affordable Housing

State Rep. Lonnie Reed announced that the funds have been secured.

BRANFORD, CT — State Representative Lonnie Reed (D-Branford) announced Friday that a $1.65 million shared grant-in-aid toward the construction of affordable housing in Branford.

The funds, authorized today during a meeting of the State Bond Commission, will reach Branford through Capital for Change, Inc.

"One of today's greatest challenges is helping families experience home ownership,” said Rep. Reed in a statement. “It builds equity, commitment to community and a real sense of belonging and of sharing in the American dream. Branford's schools, parks, recreational programs, Town Green events and countless other resources make us a family friendly place. I am grateful that Capital for Change is earmarking funds to create affordable homes in Branford that allow qualified buyers to put down roots and invest in our community."

The grant from the Connecticut Department of Housing will assist with the construction or renovation of 11 to 20 homes in designated areas in Branford, Guilford, Milford and Wallingford.

Capital for Change, formerly the Connecticut Housing Investment Fund, will review available properties and determine how to best utilize the money. C4C offers affordable homeownership opportunities to households with incomes between 80% and 100% of area median income.
