BRANFORD ROTARY BESTOWS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
3 graduating seniors at Branford High School were recognized for their academic success and promotion of Rotary's theme, Service above Self.
BRANFORD ROTARY BESTOWS 2016 SCHOLARSHIPS
July 16, 2016 Casey Cunningham is this year’s recipient of the annual Branford Rotary Scholarship. She had a 4.35 cumulative GPA for her academic efforts at Branford High School. She had been previously recognized as an AP Scholar and received the Fairfield University Book Award, English Award, Social Studies Award, National Honor Society Sophomore Book Award. Among her extracurricular activities Casey was Properties Manager in the spring musical and fall play productions. She served as treasurer of the National Honor Society, co-president of the Environmental Club. She also belonged to the World Language honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and Young Women’s Club.
Casey exemplifies the Rotary theme of “Service above Self.” She is committed to volunteerism, having been a mentor of Camp Totokett for children with family members afflicted with HIV/AIDS. She devoted four years as a mentor at Sliney School in the Motivation Program. Additionally she assisted with Reach Out and Read, More Birthdays Club, and swim lessons with the American Red Cross.

Casey Cunningham will be attending the University of Connecticut as a psychology major with a minor in neuroscience. She intends to become a pediatric psychologist, helping children with learning disabilities, emotional trauma, and other psychological struggles. She will be honored with an award of $2,500.
Additionally Branford Rotary recognized two other graduating seniors of Branford High School. Kevin Jin and Annaliese Troidle were each recipients of one thousand dollar scholarships.
