A total of 200 Connecticut freshmen and seniors combined were awarded the scholarship.

Freshmen and seniors from across Connecticut high schools were recognized at a ceremony held at the Legislative Office Building Dec. 10. State Treasurer Denise Nappier recognized 100 freshmen and 100 seniors as recipients of the 2015 Advance Scholarship from the Connecticut Higher Education Trust.

Freshman Connor Morgan, of Branford was awarded the scholarship.

Winners were randomly selected from a pool of 3,263 applicants. The winners of the scholarship come from 76 towns in all eight counties, with 126 of the winners being young women and 74 of them being young men.

“The process of researching, applying for and deciding what college to go to is incredibly stressful for students and families. If we are able to help reduce that stress level by a small amount or help fill the cost gap with CHET Advance Scholarship, then that’s a win in my book,” Nappier said in a statement.
