Branford Youth, 16, Threatened Another Youth With Handgun: Police

Police said the male teen brandished a gun, later to be found to be a BB gun, and threatened another youth at the Community House Wednesday.

BRANFORD, CT — A 16-year-old from Branford is reported to have threatened another youth with a BB gun Wednesday night at the Community House, police report.

Police said at around 6 p.m., they got a call that a juvenile had been threatened with a handgun in the packed parking lot of the Joe Trapasso Community House on Church Street. Police said the lot was filled with vehicles of people attending events at the community house and nearby Hammer Field.

Branford officers arrived and, they said, determined that a male teenage "suspect" took a "facsimile handgun" from his vehicle, held it at his side and made threats to the victim. The teen then took off in his vehicle while "displaying the gun out of the vehicle’s sunroof."

The teen was located, and arrested, by Branford police. The handgun was recovered by officers and was found to be a BB gun.

The juvenile was charged with first-degree threatening, carrying a dangerous weapon, second-degree breach of peace and having a weapon in a motor vehicle.

Police said the boy was released into the custody of his parents.
