Branford's Fire Dept. Visit ESCA PreK Students to Discuss Fire Safety

East Shoreline Catholic Academy (ESCA) is grateful for Captain Chittenden and Firefighters Gionteris, Laudicina and Maull's visit to ESCA!

October is Fire Prevention Month. Recently, Branford firefighters and paramedics took the time to visit East Shoreline Catholic Academyʼs (ESCA) preK students. Captain Randy Chittenden handed out fire hats to students and spoke to Prek3 and Prek4 about the importance of fire prevention and safety. He began by showing them a smoke detector alarm (seen in everyone's home) and how each student's family should have a meeting place in plan should the alarm go off. Firefighter and Paramedic Teddy Gionteris suited up and demonstrated to the students what a firefighter looks like when they respond to a home fire emergency. Also in attendance were Firefighter/EMT Joe Laudicina and Firefighter/Paramedic Joe Maull. After the discussion, question and answer period, the students were given a tour of Fire Engine 1 and the Fire Rescue Truck where more discussion and questions took place. Fire Prevention Safety Books were handed out to the children before returning to their classrooms. The students' teachers had some fun activities to participate in, reinforcing what was learned from the fire safety meeting with the Branford firefighters earlier.

Thank you to our Branford Fire Department, Captain Chittenden and Firefighters Gionteris, Laudicina and Maull for an informative fire safety presentation, and for all you do to keep us safe!
