Fair Haven Community Health Care Receives Branford Community Foundation Grant

Event Details

New Haven, CT – For Immediate Release

The Branford Community Foundation (BCF) has awarded Fair Haven Community Health Care (FHCHC) a $2,000 Community Impact Grant to support its Basic Needs Fund—an initiative that acknowledges health challenges often extend beyond the exam room. This funding will benefit patients receiving care at FHCHC’s Shoreline Family Health Care site in Branford and is part of BCF’s Spring 2025 distribution of $90,550 to shoreline-based nonprofits serving the Branford community.

Launched in 2020 in response to the urgent needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic, FHCHC’s Basic Needs Fund provides direct, case-by-case assistance to patients facing immediate hardship. By helping with critical needs like food, utilities, transportation, and housing, the fund fosters stability, dignity, and improved health outcomes. It empowers FHCHC’s care team to respond in real time to patients’ unique circumstances—removing barriers that might otherwise derail their care or well-being.

In 2024, the fund supported families in a variety of meaningful ways: covering heating and electric bills, providing groceries for food-insecure households, helping a mother repair her car so she could keep her job, offering temporary rental support to a domestic violence survivor, purchasing life-saving medical equipment for a child, and funding childcare so a father could attend—and land—a job interview.

Each of these stories reflects the fund’s purpose: to ensure that no family has to choose between basic necessities, ultimately paving the way for healthier families and a stronger, more resilient community.

Since 1980, the Branford Community Foundation has served as a community charitable foundation, connecting people who care with causes that matter, now and for generations to come. Grants are awarded to organizations working in the community, through a methodical and fair review process.
