Hegarty and Records Top Finishers at Acrisure Branford Road Race – Over 2,100 Participants!

Manchester’s Mark Hegarty and Middletown’s Mira Records won Sunday’s 5-Mile State Championship at the Branford Road Race. Over 2,100 runners and walkers participated in Sunday’s events at Branford’s Hammer Field. The Branford Road Race consists of a 5-Mile Road Race, a 2-Mile Fitness Walk, and the 1-Mile Mark Gilhuly Family Fun Run.
Hegarty and Farmington’s Mario Vazquez led from the start with Hegarty pulling away in the last quarter mile. Hegarty crossed the finish line in 25:04. Vasquez followed closely behind with a time of 25:12. Vazquez, age 47, has finished 2nd in the last four Acrisure Branford Road Races. Middletown’s Mira Records won the women’s state championship comfortably winning in 28:00. Glastonbury’s Alyssa Natario followed in 29:35.
Branford’s Edward Strosnick won the 1-Mile Family Fun Run in 7:08, followed by Branford’s Owen Gilman in 7:12 Branford’s Ella Hurney was the first female finisher, coming in at 8:07.
