Catholic Schools Instill In Students Importance of Serving Others

SMS 6th Grade Student Emilie Agamie utilizes her birthday in order to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

Saint Mary School’s 6th Grade Student Emilie Agamie utilizes her birthday, and resources from school, clubs she participates, and friends and family members in order to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Pictured is 6th grader Emilie Agamie, also pictured is one of our Pre-K 3 students contributing toiletries for “Emilie’s Shelf” due to a request she announced to her fellow students during Catholic Schools Week. Emilie has been collecting toiletries for Branford Counseling Center’s Basic Needs Program, for the past few years. She begins the collection on her birthday, which occurs during Catholic Schools Week. She asks fellow students to contribute by bringing in personal care items for those in need. Emilie has always requested from family and friends instead of giving her birthday presents, to contribute to "Emilie’s Shelf”, as she literally has her own shelf at the Branford Counseling Center designated for her collected contributions to help those in need.

Most parents of students who attend Catholic schools not only send them because of the excellent education they receive, but also because of the moral values instilled in the students, and the importance of serving to help others. Our students learn while accomplishments matter and success is important, meaningful achievement needs faith, purpose, & character.

In summary, the quote below captures the value of a Catholic School education:

Undoubtedly, this school prepares the mind. But by God, it prepares the soul as well. To paraphrase my dad, “Catholic schools are proud of what our kids do, but love them for who they are.” To read more from this article entitled “Why My Kids Go To Catholic Schools, go to: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/a...
